BIO

James Plant is an award-winning British designer based in Islington, London. Named Young Designer of the Year when he began his career in 2008, James has gone on to develop a reputation for original British design with personality, receiving recognition for his work in several awards and numerous publications.

In 2009 he set up the quintessentially British design business Plant & Moss. With a focus on locally-designed and made products, Plant & Moss consistently attracted the attention of the press and leading retailers. The brand's products have been sold through Liberty of London, Heal’s and Selfridges, been supplied to leading restaurants and represented British design at the London 2012 Olympics.

Whether tackling projects small or large, James starts from a position of problem solving, finding new solutions, bringing designs to life with attention to detail and a considered aesthetic.

As a strong advocate of UK manufacturing, James is an ambassador for Birmingham Made Me - a region-wide initiative working with major brands such as Jaguar Land Rover, Morgan Motor Company and AGA Rangemaster. Birmingham Made Me links students with industry and encourages growth through design and innovation in manufacture.

James founded his eponymous studio in 2013, which allows for a diverse client base with wide ranging projects. A breadth of knowledge in materials, manufacture and production has allowed James to design commissioned bespoke pieces, large-scale manufacturers, high street retail chains and local small-batch producers.

Born in Leicestershire, James has lived and worked in France and Italy. He has a keen interest in motorsport and raced in his teenage years.
